Localization of NaK ATPase on cultured human retinal pigment epithelium.
PURPOSE To localize NaK ATPase sites on cultured human retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). METHODS Cultured human RPE from fetal, 2-year-old, and 21-year-old donors was grown to confluence in microporous culture wells for 4 months to 2 years, mounted in a small-volume Ussing chamber, and perfused with growth medium. Ouabain (10(-5)-M) was applied to the basal and apical sides of the RPE. Change...
متن کاملMending Fences with Self-Invalidation and Self-Downgrade
Cache coherence protocols based on self-invalidation and self-downgrade have recently seen increased popularity due to their simplicity, potential performance efficiency, and low energy consumption. However, such protocols result in memory instruction reordering, thus causing extra program behaviors that are often not intended by the programmers. We propose a novel formal model that captures th...
متن کاملActive System Integrity Fences
This paper describes the architecture of a WrappingBased Self-Modeling System that includes all of the models and processes we have mentioned in our previous papers on the subject of methods for mitigating the effects of the Get Stuck theorems. To make the description more concrete, we have selected a particular application domain example: “active system integrity fences”, that protect and defe...
متن کاملRegulation of NaK-ATPase Activity by Neurotransmitters
The hitherto unknown NT-regulated mechanism of NaK-ATPase localized in the nerve ending membranes is found. The mechanism certainly has a functional significance and must be involved in the regulation – modulation of chemical synaptic transmission. On the other hand , the availability of the discovered specific protein, regulators (SFa and SFi) of synaptic origin, makes it possible to consider ...
متن کاملHedgehog signaling and maintenance of homeostasis in the intestinal epithelium.
Homeostasis of the rapidly renewing intestinal epithelium depends on a balance between cell proliferation and loss. Indian hedgehog (Ihh) acts as a negative feedback signal in this dynamic equilibrium. We discuss recent evidence that Ihh may be one of the key epithelial signals that indicates epithelial integrity to the underlying mesenchyme.
